USA for UNHCR would like to convey their utmost gratitude for Airbnb’s generosity in supporting refugees all over the world. The 2016 Airbnb “Belong Anywhere” campaign raised more than $1 million, and along with Airbnb’s matching grant of $800,000 to USA for UNHCR, means that $1.6 million worth of aid will be received by refugees who are in dire need of assistance, while $200,000 of travel credits will be given to organizations supporting refugees worldwide.

Airbnb’s #BelongAnywhere campaign ran from September 19th to December 31st 2016 and raised both awareness for the plight of refugees around the world, and much needed support for the basic needs of refugees such as shelter, water, food, safety and protection from harm. Efforts were amplified on social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook, and on the Airbnb and USA for UNHCR websites.

“We’re so grateful to Airbnb for this creative campaign that leverages the global Airbnb community to enlist more people supporting the people who are fleeing war and violence worldwide,” said Anne-Marie Grey, Executive Director of USA for UNHCR.

USA for UNHCR donors and supporters also stepped up to ensure that this matching campaign was successful through their remarkable generosity.

We salute Airbnb and everyone who donated for their humanitarian spirit, and their willingness to generate solutions to the challenges refugees face every day.
