Best-Selling Author Khaled Hosseini in San Francisco

USA for UNHCR's Executive Director Marc Breslaw interviews Khaled Hosseini
On April 25th, best-selling author Khaled Hosseini (The Kite
Runner
and A Thousand Splendid Suns) discussed the work of UNHCR and the challenges facing Afghan refugees before an audience of more than 500 listeners in the San Francisco Bay Area, at a sold-out event the Lafayette Orinda Presbyterian Church.

Dr. Hosseini was introduced and interviewed about Afghanistan, refugees, UNHCR and his own writing by USA for UNHCR’s executive director, Marc Breslaw.  Participants then had a chance to ask questions and share thoughts.

Organized by Michael and Carolyn Bealmear, friends and supporters of USA for UNHCR, this event was covered by local t.v. and print media. The event raised more than awareness; donations from the audience came to more than six thousand dollars and were matched by a contribution from the Bealmears, for a total of over twelve thousand dollars raised in a single night.

Dr. Hosseini and other leading advocates for refugees will be speaking in Washington, DC on June 18th, at our World Refugee Day program. Contact us to learn more about World Refugee Day or to discuss how we can work together to organize an event and guest speaker in your own community.
