Violent attacks in Iraq have created new waves of displacement – causing an emergency call for even more resources in the area. Terrified, homeless and in need of food and water, families are fleeing with nothing but the clothes on their backs. They have no other choice, if they want to survive.

More than 4 million Iraqis have been forced to flee their homes and are now internally displaced because of the increased violence. There are also 300,000 refugees in Iraq from neighboring countries – the vast majority escaping violence and persecution in Syria.

UNHCR is on the ground, providing much needed protection and aid to hundreds of thousands of families. Rapid response efforts are underway, including the distribution of critical relief items like blankets, clean drinking water, hygiene kits, sleeping mats and other basic survival items.
