Winter Clothing

To escape war, violence and persecution, many refugees leave everything behind — including coats, sweaters, boots and other winter essentials. You can provide warm, lifesaving winter clothing to those who endure winter with little protection from the cold.

Six-month-old Mona lives with her mother Suzanne, two siblings, aunt and uncle in the Bekaa Valley, one of the coldest regions of Lebanon. "I came from Syria with no money. I have nothing," Suzanne said. Generous support from USA for UNHCR donors provides this refugee family with winter clothing as well as shelter, heating fuel and other vital humanitarian aid.

Like little Mona, Hossa, 7, also lives in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley with her family. Although they escaped war and persecution in Syria, there’s no escaping the cold temperatures, icy rains and bone-chilling winds that descend on their informal settlement. Caring Americans are helping keep this family warm and safe, which includes making sure they have warm winter clothing.

After her village was attacked in Aleppo, Syria, Halima, a widow, and her children fled with little more than the clothes on their backs. During the summer in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, where the family found refuge, the children can play outside and Halima can find work to support them, but "the winter situation is scary, especially for the children who don't get warm." Through their generous support, USA for UNHCR donors have helped to calm Halima's fears thanks to the warm clothing and other winter survival assistance she now receives.
