“In an outstanding field of candidates, Anne-Marie was the right choice to continue and strengthen USA for UNHCR’s work on behalf of millions of uprooted people in need of assistance worldwide,” says Charles DeSantis, Chair of the Board and Associate Vice President and Chief Benefits Officer at Georgetown University. “She has both a passion for the mission and a track record of exceptional fundraising achievement and we are grateful to have her in this role.”

Washington, DC—Anne-Marie Grey has assumed the post of executive director of USA for UNHCR, the US fundraising partner of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), at a time of extraordinary humanitarian crisis and displacement. She brings more than 30 years of global fundraising and marketing experience to the position.

In her new role, Grey will lead a team of 50 staff members in the US to raise awareness about the humanitarian needs of refugees and critical funding for the lifesaving work of the UN Refugee Agency in crisis zones around the world.

Grey previously served for two years as the UN Refugee Agency’s Chief of Leadership Giving. She earlier held senior fundraising and corporate alliance positions at Save the Children, UNICEF, US Fund for UNICEF and Share our Strength. As Director of Grey O’Keefe Associates, a global consulting firm she established, Grey led dozens of marketing and fundraising initiatives for non-profit organizations, including Operation Smile, GAVI and Children International. Earlier clients, based in Australia, include the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Australian War Memorial and the Australian Sports Commission. Grey studied at the Graduate School of Management at the University of New South Wales and Colby College and also received degrees from the Australian National University.

“I’m proud to join an organization that makes a real and lasting impact—helping to save the lives of refugee families during emergencies and rebuild them in the aftermath,” says Grey. “I look forward to building stronger public and private partnerships for the cause of refugees in the US and increasing resources for UNHCR’s vital work around the world.”

Grey takes over leadership of USA for UNHCR from Charles DeSantis, who has been serving as interim executive director.

“At this time, we’re facing multiple humanitarian crises, spiraling displacement and massive needs,” says Amanda Seller, UNHCR’s head of private sector fundraising. “We look forward to partnering with Anne-Marie as head of USA for UNHCR to help us meet the enormous challenges ahead.”
