#GivingTuesday: A special day to support refugee families

#GivingTuesday is just around the corner and it’s the perfect time to make a difference in the lives of millions of refugee families worldwide. By making a donation here or starting your own fundraiser, you can help us raise enough funds to provide 1,500 winter survival kits to refugee families struggling to survive this winter.

Each winter survival kit includes five thermal blankets, three mattresses, winter clothes and a plastic sheet to insulate shelters — crucial supplies for a family with only a tent to protect them from the cold.

For families in the Middle East conditions during winter are particularly dire. Many are entering their ninth year in exile, living in temporary shelters with little protection from the elements. When winter arrives, they  become exposed to harsh weather conditions and are prone to frostbite, hypothermia and other poor medical conditions. Approximately 3.88 million people in the Middle East will need substantial help to survive the forthcoming winter.

Such is the case of Amira and her husband, who had to flee violence in Aleppo, Syria. Life as refugees was hard as they moved from place to place. But when Amira discovered she was pregnant, the situation became even more desperate. Now they had a little baby to protect.

The family found safety in a temporary shelter in Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley. Through her love for her daughter, Amira has managed to turn their temporary shelter into a secure place for her family to be together. But as temperatures drop, she knows that every day will be a struggle for survival. She will need additional warm clothing and blankets to keep her 3-year-old daughter Amani safe from the cold.

#GivingTuesday Winterization Syria

Join us on #GivingTuesday and help us reach our goal to deliver 1,500 winter survival kits to refugees like Amira and Amani struggling to stay warm this winter. Your gift today will not only help deliver critical life saving support, it will also let refugees know they are not alone.

Thank you for standing with refugees this #GivingTuesday.
