Hamdi Ulukaya, Founder and CEO of Chobani, pledges $2mm for immediate humanitarian relief to Iraqi and Syrian refugees along Turkish border

Pledge marks one of the largest personal contributions to alleviate suffering of refugees fleeing violence in the region

Initial funds to go to United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and International Rescue Committee (IRC)

NEW YORK, Oct. 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Hamdi Ulukaya, Founder and CEO of Chobani, today made a personal pledge of $2 million to address the urgent and critical needs of refugees escaping violence along the Iraqi and Syrian borders of Turkey.

Ulukaya is making initial donations to the UNHCR and IRC, which both have longstanding, large-scale humanitarian relief operations in the region. In addition to this support, Ulukaya plans to identify other innovative nongovernmental organizations and support their on-the-ground relief work, including long-term recovery and economic stabilization efforts. Hundreds of thousands of men, women and children who are fleeing violence in Syria and Iraq are in urgent need of relief, particularly winter supplies. The most vulnerable people must be given access to relief services without delay.
