USA for UNHCR is excited to welcome Suzanne Ehlers to the team as Executive Director and CEO. Announced in December 2022 to succeed Anne-Marie Grey, Suzanne has deep leadership experience in the transformation, scaling and growth of development and humanitarian organizations.
But Suzanne is more than just her impressive list of roles and accomplishments. Here are a few more things to know about Suzanne:
- She has a long history leading development and humanitarian organizations. Suzanne comes to USA for UNHCR after serving as CEO of Malala Fund. In this role, she worked closely with co-founders Malala and Ziauddin Yousafzai leading a global staff of experts and advocates — people who are breaking down barriers that prevent 130 million girls globally from going to school.
- She is dedicated to advocating for others. Prior to Malala Fund, Suzanne was President and CEO of PAI, Population Action International, a global advocacy leader in protecting and promoting the reproductive health and rights of women and girls. Suzanne has also held numerous board and advisory positions and, early in her career, served as a Peace Corps volunteer.
- She cares deeply about refugees and is thrilled to be joining and leading this amazing community of supporters. Like you, the global refugee crisis has been top of her mind — from Afghanistan to Ukraine. Suzanne is excited to continue to grow a platform for refugee voices and allow compassionate Americans to show their support for refugees.
USA for UNHCR’s mission to protect and empower refugees has never been more important, and we look forward to continuing to deliver results for refugees guided by Suzanne’s passion and leadership.
