Airbnb Launches #BelongAnywhere Campaign

As the UN General Assembly kicks off in New York this week, discussions about the global refugee crisis are front and center. To mark this event, a significant new campaign to help refugees was launched by Airbnb—a major USA for UNHCR partner.

Airbnb’s #BelongAnywhere global campaign aligns with the company’s mission to create a world where people can feel like they belong anywhere they go. The campaign aims to bring media attention and financial support for refugees around the world  as they integrate into new communities. With a multi-day fundraising effort on Twitter and a dedicated donation page, individuals are invited to join #BelongAnywhere – knowing their donation will be matched by Airbnb up to $1 million through December 31.

Funds raised through #BelongAnywhere will enable USA for UNHCR’s to increase support for the basic needs and rights for refugees – like shelter, water, food, safety and protection from harm – and support UNCHR staff on the ground around the world including Europe and Africa.

“This campaign from Airbnb is a great example of how the private sector can play a leadership role in tackling the global refugee crisis, which is unprecedented in scale since WWII,” said USA for UNHCR Executive Director Anne-Marie Grey. “We’re so grateful to Airbnb for this creative campaign that leverages the global Airbnb community to enlist more people supporting the people who are fleeing war and violence worldwide.”

Airbnb is doing even more to support the cause as part of its long-standing commitment to the issue. Today, Airbnb joined the launch of the President’s Call-to-Action on Private Sector Engagement (Partnership for Refugees) – an initiative established through collaboration between the State Department and USA for UNHCR. In addition to its #BelongAnywhere campaign, the company’s commitment includes a program that enables existing Airbnb hosts to temporarily accommodate refugee families and expansion of its initiative to host relief workers through the travel credits program.
